Criggion and Great Wollaston, both formerly parts of Alberbury, have been cut off from it and made into separate parishes. The parish of Alberbury contains an area of 9,599 acres. The population in 1871 was 1661; in 1901 it was 794. The name is presumably derived from some Saxon Alberic, who settled here long before the Norman Conquest.
The Parish Register Abstract oi 1831 gives this account ol the Parish Registers: Alberbury V. (with Woollaston C. and Criggion C), Nos. I-VI, Registers 1564-1634 (defective 1575-1608), 1636-1735, 1745- 1749. No. VII, Bap. 1780-1812. No. VIII, Bur. 1780-1812. No. IX, Mar. 1780-1812." The same Abstract states that the Register of Cardiston contains "Bur. at Alberbury since 1747."
