One year after the date of this registry in 1736 James Watt (1736-1819) was born and in 1769 he would patent his efficient steam engine, which was later adapted to drive machinery in cotton factories and manufacturing businesses across the land.
Owning land was the main form of wealth in the 18th century. Political power and influence was in the hands of rich landowners. The King of England in 1735 was George II, the last English monarch to be born outside of Great Britain. He was born in 1683 and died in 1760. He became King on his father's death in 1727. In 1735, he gave Sir Robert Walpole a gift of number 10 Downing Street, and it has remained the permanent London residence of the British Prime Minister ever since.
